1. Meet at the central exit of JR Omori Station at 10:30 am. Look for someone with a bag with the "homecoming TAKA" logo on it. 8 minutes walk to my house. On the way, you will pass by a shrine and walk through a quiet residential area. 2. When we arrive at my house, I will explain today's program. Origami → making udon noodles → making Japanese food (sushi, dumplings, etc.) → matcha green tea → souvenir calligraphy colored paper 3. First, origami. Fold the paper crane. 4. After that, make udon noodles. Enjoy the process from materials to completion. You step on the material. 5. We will make sushi and gyoza together as the main menu for lunch. As an experience of Japanese cuisine, it will be the main course of the day. In addition, my wife serves some Japanese small plates. 6. Enjoy conversation and enjoy a leisurely lunch. All materials are made in Japan. Drinks too. Beer, sake, shochu and soft drinks are free. Drink, eat and have a blast! 7. After dinner, make matcha together. Taste matcha with local Japanese sweets. 8. Finally, Keiko will write the visitor's name in calligraphy on colored paper and take it home as a souvenir. 9. It's a regrettable time. My husband and I are easily moved to tears. We will send you off to JR Omori Station, hoping to see you again next time.

This is a must do activity for anyone wanting a unique cultural experience in Japan. I especially recommend it for families with kids. I initially found Taka Homecoming because I was looking for a cooking class experience that could accommodate some dietary needs in our group and it far exceeding my expectations. Everyone says this was a highlight of our time in Tokyo. I am looking forward to trying out udon and tempura making at home.
What can I say, all 5 star reviews are true. I knew that this would be the highlight of our trip and it was. Taka and Keiko are wonderful, caring hosts that really felt like family. I understand why people keep coming back every year. I wish I could come back now. We attended with our three children: 8,11 and 17 years old. It’s always hard to find an activity for these ages, but this is the one that kept everyone engaged and the one they will always remember. Learning about the culture, the traditions, cooking together brought so much joy to all of us. Taka and Keiko were also exited to add a pin to their map for a new country. One suggestion: come with a gift or a souvenir. They really treat you like family and I’m glad that I was able to give them something as a reminder of our time with them and show appreciation for their efforts. I will highly recommend to engine visiting Tokyo and hope to come back one day or host them in USA.
As soon as you arrive at the station to meet up with Taka, you will feel genuinely welcomed for your visit. The cultural Japanese experience begins as you make your short walk to Taka & Keiko's home. There, you are greeted with Keiko and you begin doing origami and enjoy conversation over drinks. Shortly after, you begin with your Japanese cooking experience. Their nigiri, udon from scratch, and tempura are the best we have had, ever! After the full meal, you will enjoy some matcha and calligraphy. We have visited them year after year, and feel reunited as a family. Taka & Keiko, we can't wait until our next visit. Thank you for being such a warm family- you are dearly missed already!
One of the most authentic experiences of my trip to Japan. Our amazing host Taka met our small group of five at the train station, thank you! We began with a walk through the local neighbourhood, stopping at a shrine which added a wonderful cultural context to the day. Then, when we arrived at Taka's home, we were welcomed by his lovely wife Keiko who taught us how to fold a crane, lucky for us she is a patient woman. Then after a refreshing drink we moved onto the cooking experience itself. The food was incredible. We rolled sushi with the freshest seafood, cooked premium wagyu beef, made tempura, and even made our own udon noodles, which involved some entertaining disco-style footwork to knead the dough! Every dish was delicious, and the hands-on nature of the experience was so fun. As a solo traveller, I instantly felt part of my new Japanese family. The atmosphere was relaxed and personal, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions and learn a little more about Japanese culture. I'll be back and thank you to you both :)
Amazing experience and I highly recommend it. The owners graciously open up their home to provide an authentic experience. We made udon and sushi from scratch. The food was delicious and learning origami and calligraphy was a nice touch. I will definitely visit again when we return to Japan.
My daughter, our friends, and I had an amazing time with Taka and his wife. From the moment Taka picked us up right on time, we knew we were in good hands. He even brought umbrellas in case it rained, which was such a thoughtful touch. This experience is so much more than a cooking class or a meal. You’re welcomed into their home and treated like family. Taka and his wife are incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming, and they made the entire experience feel so personal. The food was absolutely delicious, and we learned so much about Japanese culture along the way. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It’s worth every penny and is an absolute must if you’re visiting Tokyo. Thank you, Taka and your wife, for such a wonderful and unforgettable experience!
We travelled from Chicago in the US and booked Homecoming Taka for our first day- and this was by far the best activity of our trip! Five of us in total, all slightly jet-lagged, and Taka and Keiko made us feel immediately at home. From the moment Taka greets you at the train, you are part of the family. This is an authentic experience, where you learn so much about the Japanese culture in the warm home of a local family. It felt so much more special than a big group tour. For context, we have three kids age 10 and 8 year old twins, and they also said this was their favorite part of the trip. They also maintain it was the best sushi of the trip as well! Cannot recommend this more highly. Taka and Keiko, thank you again for opening your home to us! Unforgettable experience.
