Ephesus Terrace Houses
De velstående menneskene i byen bodde i husene bygget på terrasser i skråningene til Bülbül-fjellet. Husene som ble bygget rundt en åpen peristilliumgård besto av to etasjer. Husene, hvis første byggedato ble identifisert som det 1. århundre e.Kr., ble brukt i de påfølgende årene med forskjellige tilleggsmodifikasjoner inntil byen til slutt ble forlatt. Gulvene i husene er dekorert med mosaikk og veggene er dekorert med marmor og fresker. Husene hadde fontener og gulvvarmeanlegg.

The guide did not show up. We sent repeated message but now, five hours later we have not had any communications from either the local provider or aviator. Will never use them again.
Tour guide didn’t show, I tried to send him multiple messages and he never replied
Our “history only” tour was literally the highlight of our trip to Turkey. Even though two couples cancelled out the day before, Mehmet, the owner, went on with our group of three rather than cancelling because we did not have the minimum of four people. BTW, two of us are history teachers, who knew some history of the area and were eager to learn more. We were delighted with the knowledge displayed by our guide Huseyin and his ability to answer all our questions in addition to providing insights into the multiple civilizations that have occupied the area of Ephesus. All three of us learned a lot. And, as promised, we did not deal with any pushy rug, ceramics, or merchants of any kind. We also arrived by train from Izmir which was very easy and were met at the station by Mehmet who is really a great communicator. All in all, a great day and worth every penny spent.
On our tour to Ephesus, Mehmet was a great driver and a better companion. He organized our trip in a way that allowed us to be the first visitors of the day at the House of Virgin Mary, and later he took us to Ephesus site and museum. We had lunch at an excellent place, true local food. Overall a great experience, very recommendable and skipping shopping visits.

Not being history buffs, our tour guide was great in giving us the background and context to be able to appreciate it all.
