Overzicht

One price for up to six. A completely private, guided highlights tour of one of the greatest museums in the world. I am an friendly, insured, licensed, Blue Badge Guide with a degree in Classical History. I cut away myths and explain a wide range of the most important objects in the collection. The Rosetta Stone, Egyptian Pharaohs, a scared metal cat. The Parthenon marbles, to a bust of Homer and spectacular, classical jewellery. Unusual roman glass, to Pompeii wall paintings. Early British gold and silver from a boat burial. I work with families, and their children are very welcome, as are groups, couples, individuals and students. We also enter very quickly as we will be to the front of the line.

The British Museum
Luister naar een inleiding tot het museum en zijn collecties. Je zult de Rosetta-steen zien, de sleutel tot de Egyptische geschiedenis en hoe je kunt horen hoe deze werd vertaald. Zie een standbeeld van Toetanchamon, hoor over zijn leven en hoe hij stierf. Sarcofaagmotieven, canopische potten en het dodenboek. Hoor over de oorsprong van Rome, zijn technologie, enkele klassieke propaganda in glas, alligatorpantser en prachtige gouden sieraden. Griekse beeldhouwwerken, een gouden hoofdtooi en vechtende amazones. Allemaal in een van de grootste musea ter wereld.

Net links van de hoofdingang aan Great Russell Street, tegenover Starbucks. De gids van Anthony Matthews zal je daar ontmoeten, ik ben helemaal kaal. Zie de foto waar je elkaar kunt ontmoeten. Zorg dat je minimaal 10 minuten te vroeg aanwezig bent tijdens de tour van 10.00 uur, zodat we als een van de eersten binnen zijn.

Makes the vast Museum manageable

The British Museum can quickly be overwhelming. Having a guide help navigate everything and hit the highlights is so nice. Anthony was an excellent guide. He had such a passion for the knowledge he was sharing. He was able to provide many more interesting tidbits than was included with the displays. Anthony was very patient with my mobility challenged parents, and he enabled us to efficiently traverse the galleries.

Superb small group tour

Tony is a retired archeologist who works at the museum a few days a month. He was able to demonstrate with specific examples that archeology is a science and can tell the stories of the past. He navigated us through the maze of the British Museum to highlight specific artifacts and bring them to life for our family. Other benefits of this tour: -Tony held a spot in line so we were the first ones to enter -He knew how the crowds would move so we were able to see the Rosetta Stone right away then discuss in detail near a recreated version

We booked this tour as a treat for our 12-year-old grandson who has developed a passion for ancient history and mythology. Andrew was brilliant and more than met expectations. We spent most of the time covering Greece, not only about what happened but why. Andrew engaged our grandson in discussion for two and a half hours; unheard of! A brief text from him about 2 hours in to the tour sums up any recommendation – “still having the time of my life”.
