1st Austalian Division Memorial
Na de lunch gaan we verder met het bezoek aan het dorp Pozières, waar de bloedigste Australische strijd aan het Westfront plaatsvond. Overblijfselen van de bunker van Gibraltar blijven en gedenktekens waaronder het monument van de Eerste Australische Divisie, de windmolen en de gedenktekens van Tanks Corp

Windmill Memorial
Het windmolenmonument is een Duitse positie ingenomen door de Australische troepen tijdens de slag om Pozières. Aan de andere kant van de weg herinnert het tankmonument zich waar de tanks voor het eerst in de geschiedenis werden gebruikt

Om ons te helpen de loopgravenoorlog te begrijpen, bezoeken we het Newfoundland Park in Beaumont Hamel en in het bijzonder het goed bewaarde loopgravenstelsel

Verzamelpunt & ophalen
Ophalen bij het hotel is inbegrepen voor alle reizigers.

Olivier was an excellent guide. Pick up from our apartment went smoothly and so too the tour thereafter. He is knowledgeable and is able to give his guests the ability to visualize the terrain as it was . So place names on a map take some shape when standing for instance at the windmill or when at the Newfoundland trenches. Has a great set up in his comfortable merc suv with an iPad with trench maps and historical photos. Highly recommended
One of the best tours we have done. Olivier was a wonderful guide. Full of knowledge about the area and the conflicts that occurred. As we are from Australia, Olivier concentrated (but not solely), the tour on the Australian Corp and their participation. A visit to the Sir John Monash Centre was included and a must see for all Australians would highly recommend this tour and especially Olivier
A memorable pilgrimage to where so many Australian’s lie killed in action - 46000 of them - across the battlefields of Northern France in Fromelles, Villiers Bretenoux, Poziers, Mouquot Farm, Paschendale, le Hamel, Mont St Quentin and many others. What a terrible price to pay - death of the dreams of youth 😢 The private tour we undertook with Olivier was excellent and super informative. A must do for any Aussie or Kiwi visiting. Definitely another one off the life bucket list - just incredible and so moving. Lest we forget 🇦🇺💪🏽
We were fortunate to have Oliver as our guide. Prior to our trip I sent him details from NZ of my Gt Uncle's military details and he then took us to the Somme and walked us through where he had been. This personalised trip was meaningful and very emotional . Thank you Oliver, it meant so much bring able to remember those volunteer NELSON NZ Fire Brigade members and the sacrifice they made for their country. Appreciate also the care that is given to ensure that Caterpillar Valley memorial is given to those laid at rest there and never forgotten.
Recently My 3 sons and myself were Spoilt by Olivier and his Mercedes, a passionate KNOWLEDGEABLE engaging Frenchman who gave us quotes and perspectives during this day Tour that we will treasure. Took us to the very spot where Grandad got shot in the right hand during a German offensive and as testimony to his Thorough research,quoted an extract ONSITE from his Ipad of the actual day logs of 44th battalion detailing that Lieutenant W R Maddeford had sustained a hand injury in the afternoon.
