We begin at either Shukkeien Garden or Peace Memorial Park, depending on your preference, and walk through Hiroshima Castle and Gokoku Shrine to understand the city before 1945. As we follow the Peace Line into the park, I share stories and perspectives that many visitors miss.
We continue to the A-Bomb Dome and, if you wish, the Peace Memorial Museum. The pace is relaxed, with time for questions and reflection. This is not a rushed sightseeing tour, but a thoughtful introduction to Hiroshima’s past and present.

A beautiful traditional garden offering a calm introduction to Hiroshima. We explore winding paths, ponds, and bridges while talking about the city’s early history and cultural roots.

Hiroshima Castle
A reconstructed castle that once stood at the center of Hiroshima’s samurai-era city. We visit the grounds to understand life before 1945 and how this area changed after the bombing. Built in 1589 by the powerful feudal lord Mori Terumoto, Hiroshima Castle was once a formidable fortress and the economic center of the city. Its five-story main keep, surrounded by a moat, offers stunning views of the city. Today, the castle has been meticulously reconstructed, allowing visitors to step back in time and explore its historical significance. Beyond its imposing exterior, Hiroshima Castle also carries a poignant message of peace. The atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 devastated the city, including the castle. Yet, from the ashes, a symbol of hope and resilience emerged. Today, the castle stands as a reminder of the tragedy of war and the enduring human spirit.

To ensure a smooth start to the tour, I will contact you in advance to confirm the exact meeting time and location. On the day of the tour: Please arrive at the meeting point 5–10 minutes early. This is a relaxed 4-hour walking tour, so comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are recommended. Depending on the weather, a hat, sunscreen, or a small umbrella may be helpful. I look forward to showing you around Hiroshima.

Terrific day touring Hiroshima with Alex of HiroTours. We had a short visit but he maximized our time in the area, organized bikes to make the most of our tour, and provided engaging insights about the history of Hiroshima that kept our teen boys (and us) interested. It was the right balance of sights and history. He also helped get us back to the train station to make our return trip. Wonderful experience with Alex.
Alex was an outstanding tour guide during our 4-hour walking tour of Hiroshima. He struck the perfect balance between being informative and engaging, sharing not just historical facts but meaningful context that really brought the city’s story to life. What stood out most was his depth of knowledge about Hiroshima’s history and his ability to explain complex and emotional topics in a thoughtful, respectful way. He also kept the pace comfortable and made sure we felt included, answering questions with patience and insight. Beyond the history, Alex pointed out small details and local spots we would have completely missed on our own, which made the experience feel much more personal. By the end of the tour, we felt like we had a much deeper understanding of Hiroshima, not just as a historical site, but as a vibrant, resilient city. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone visiting Hiroshima, this tour was easily one of the highlights of our trip.

Our guide Alex was great! He communicated with me well in advance of the tour date and throughout. He met us right at the train station and walked us from there. Also - he was flexible / accommodating with our schedule and interests. Hiroshima experience was better than I thought it would be. Peace Park and the museum are top notch! We learned a lot!

We visited Hiroshims in Jan 2026, we arranged a guided tour, Alex was our guide. The tour was super interesting... Alex guided us through beautiful garden, memorial snd a small museum of the beaten track. Alex was engaging and made the whole experience very enjoyable for all of us (me, my wife, in our 50's, daughter 23, son 24). The tour finished at the peace museum, which we had visited the previous day.

Alex provided a wonderful experience on this tour. He shared his detailed knowledge of Hiroshima and its history and each of the locations we visited in a straightforward, approachable, and easily understood way. He also provided deeper and valuable insights from multiple perspectives as a resident, community member, and parent of a young family living close by to many of the places on the tour. Besides the listed tour locations, we visited other places significant to the story of Hiroshima's rebuilding after WWII, and we greatly appreciated the additional depth this provided to our experience. Even our lunchtime meal of local cuisine held interesting insights and cultural lessons, wonderfully explained by Alex. I think this tour was the perfect introduction for our first visit to the city, and I can easily recommend it to other visitors looking for an engaging and thoughtful experience in Hiroshima.
