   Red Beach

   Pyrgos

   Pyrgos village, Profitis Ilias monastery at the top of the hill, which is the highest point of the island:(567 metres-1860.2 feet)Hilltop Pyrgos Kallistis sits in the Mount Profitis Ilias foothills, surrounded by vineyards producing renowned Assyrtiko white wines. Its steep, medieval alleys are home to wine bars and taverns, galleries, and boutiques. The Santorini of the Past museum explores traditional island life, and there are religious relics at the Museum of Icons and Ecclesiastical Artefacts, set in the former Agia Triada chapel.

   Monastery of Profitis Ilias

   Prophet Elias Monastery is built on the highest peak of Santorini, at 565 meters (1900 feet) above sea level. It was built in 1712 and has an interesting history.

   Blue and white domes. During the Greek junta or Regime of the Colonels from 1967 – 1974, the military government set out to uniform the landscape. To comply, people started painting the buildings blue and white, the colors of the Greek flag.
