   Visit the former royal temple within the grounds of Ayutthaya’s old palace.    Wat Yai Chaya Mongkol

   Climb toward the temple’s prominent chedi and enjoy views across rows of saffron-robed Buddha images and the surrounding grounds. Learn how the temple became connected with King Naresuan and one of Ayutthaya’s most celebrated military victories. The active monastery also offers a contrast to the abandoned ruins found elsewhere in the historical park.

   Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan

   Step inside one of Ayutthaya’s oldest and most active temples to see the enormous seated Buddha image known locally as Luang Pho To. Its lively spiritual atmosphere provides a very different experience from the outdoor archaeological ruins.
